POOLED TRUSTS:  AN ASSET PRESERVATION STRATEGY FOR OUR ELDER AND DISABLED CLIENTS

 
Presentation will discuss first party supplemental needs trusts as a concept, will explain how pooled trusts in particular can be used to preserve eligibility for asset-based government benefits such as SSI and MassHealth, and will cover the harmful rule changes proposed by MassHealth and legislative efforts designed to trump those proposed changes.  The presentation will also discuss advocacy efforts we all can do to help protect planning tool for MA seniors. Using The Arc of Bristol County Pooled Trust as an example, the presentation will explain how a pooled trust works, how cases are administered during the lifetime of a beneficiary, and what happens when the beneficiary dies.
